The Market Bangkok - Similar to Platinum Mall But Way More Spacious and Not As Cluttered #themarketbangkok

Having been to Bangkok so many times, my shopping routine is more or less fixated with terminal 21, chatuchak weekend market, night markets, Big C Ratchadamri supermarket, platinum mall (sometimes) etc.

I am adding another one to the list; The Market Bangkok

Conveniently located next to Big C Ratchadamri supermarket, where many Singaporeans flock to to buy their food souvenirs, it's said to be a better, more modern version of the nearby Platinum Mall. Is that true? Let's check out the pictures.

Personally, i have never quite liked Platinum Mall as the place was always congested with people given the narrow passages and it's almost entirely covered with stores selling clothes; most of which are for the fairer sex!

At The Market Bangkok, the wide passages were very much welcome although the vibe feels more like another shopping centre, instead of replicating Platinum Mall's cookie-cutter style stores.

The feel is more similar to terminal 21; where you get some brand stores and a mixture of standalone, smaller stores for budding entrepreneurs looking to market and display their products in a neat and less cluttered manner.

Some photographs to give you a rough feel of what's available. We even found a branch of "over the sky"; a shop at terminal 21 that sells t-shirts that Alex likes.

Dedicated section for lingerie with brands like wacoal, triumph, bsc etc. Both my sisters didn't buy anything so i am guessing things were not too cheap. At The Market Bangkok, it didn't feel like we can bargain much, unlike Platinum Mall.

Spa section; i used to be so obsessed with aromatherapy but right now, i am happy with the scented candles instead; less of a fire risk.

A domo-kun cafe that offers merchandise too! I totally love this picture of Joyce; can't imagine she is already a mother of two primary school kids.

Here's her goofing around again! She's a much better model than Alex as her expression is a lot more exaggerated. Guess we all know where Joyvn gets her over-the-top expression from. To think that i was initially getting all the blame.

Unlike Platinum Mall, there's an area where you can also buy local food products and the best thing is that you can sample some of them! That's really helpful as you can get at least get to taste before buying for your friends and family back home!

Remember this?

Yes, the interesting Lhong Tou Cafe from Chinatown has set up a branch at The Market Bangkok! And it also features its iconic elevated dining platform concept.

My family wasn't too keen on Chinese dim sum and we opted for Bangkok's most popular cafe; After You Dessert Cafe, where we had Shibuya Honey Toast and the delish Mango Sticky Rice Kakigori! Unlike other branches, this outlet didn't have a queue! We were at Siam Paragon earlier that day and the queue for After You was ridiculous there!

Dinner is as important as desserts and we had another Louisiana seafood style dining at  Koongtung (Seafood on a Table); loving the addictive green chilli paste concoction. In terms of food, there is a ton of options at The Market Bangkok.

Music for the ears!

The Market Bangkok's official opening was just a few months ago, which makes it one of the newest shopping centre in the capital city. However, as you might have noticed from the photos above, the crowd was thin and some stalls had yet to be taken up.

It does pay well to bring in a popular brand; as the management did with Tiger Sugar bubble tea. Just look at the queue! Hopefully it would translate into a higher footfall for the mall in times to come.
