I wasn't out to find an isolated hotel / resort when i planned for my Langkawi trip in July this year as i honestly couldn't stand paying so much to be stuck in an inconvenient place. Hence, after much checking and consideration, i decided on Cenang Plaza Beach Hotel.
Why? Because it's smacked right in the middle of a (small scale) shopping mall along the touristy Cenang district and the popular Cenang beach! That, to me, is a good combination even though there's no swimming pool, no game centre etc. I just need a place to sleep!
The first two levels of the building were reserved for commercial entities (like Pizza Hut, duty free outlet, subway etc) and the reception for the hotel is located at the side.
Just look out for the bowing sculpture in striking red!
Reception lobby wasn't big but i would have expected so with just 45 rooms. Service was friendly and polite; also expected as the rating on hotels.com was a respectable 8.4.
Other accolades include a guest rating of 8.7 by hotelscombined.com, 8.5 in 2017 by bookings.com and winner of 2018 Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice!
Note: additional charges are imposed as part of the taxes collected by the state and federal governments; if i recall correctly, it's about RM 11.00 a night. A refundable deposit of RM 50.00 was also collected at the point of checking in.
Complimentary WiFi in lobby and for the room; most hotels / resorts' WiFi signal is usually lousy but the network for Cenang Plaza Beach Hotel was fast in the four nights i spent in Langkawi and i could even stream videos!
Only one lift served the four levels although we didn't face much delays in waiting for the elevators throughout our stay. Maybe because it wasn't the peak period when we visited.
Directory for your reference; i shall share more on parking later.
Special discounts for hotel guests which is quite a common practice among hotels / resorts to drive up sales for resident shops. Pity i didn't even bother stopping at level two (where the spa and barber are).
Lift landing on level three that's non-air-conditioned.
There's a balcony looking out to Cenang Mall which was the small scale shopping centre i shared earlier. I have the suspicion it could be under the same company managing Cenang Plaza Beach Hotel.
Super narrow corridor! If you have another guests coming towards you, your friends and you would have to proceed in a single file!
Stepping into Room 315; which was categorized as Deluxe King Beach Facing on the hotels.com website. I didn't have any other option to choose then as everything else was booked and this was the last room available on the website.
At 24 square meters, it wasn't huge but contained the standard necessities like mini fridge, safe, 40-inch flat screen television, two complimentary bottles of mineral water, sachets of instant coffee and tea etc.
And a see-through wardrobe.
The comfy king-sized bed - a friend decided to join us for this trip and we managed to bunk in together; luckily we are all pretty small sized and it wasn't a squeeze at all!
Useless balcony as we totally didn't make use of it at all! Wait, i did hang out my laundry on two occasions but that shouldn't be the purpose of a hotel balcony right?!
View of the super near Cenang beach where there are numerous watering holes, counters offerings beach activities like parsailing, jetski and a great place to catch the sunset!
Back to the room again; the toilet!
Nothing visually fascinating even though i must commend the surprisingly strong water pressure from the rainfall shower; very shiok! Our only complaint was the toilet bowl which was choked twice during our stay. However, the technicians came rather quickly to rectify after we called the reception. That's still a plus point!
