Salted Egg Squid (咸蛋苏东) @ Yi Jia South Village Seafood Restaurant (一家南村海鲜), Macpherson Branch

I am getting fat; thanks to all the birthday meals i had been indulging in for the past few weeks. Despite the perpetually full stomach, it's amazing how i could still crave for certain food.

This has to stop before i breach the psychological 65 kilograms mark!!!!

But before that happens, let me enlighten you with what i am craving right now. Right now meaning as i type out every letter, every word, every sentence of this post!

It's the delightful salted egg squid from Yijia.

One of the chef's recommendations - this was missed out in my first visit given we ordered far too much food and cholesterol rich squid was deemed a no-no by my family members. Add salted egg to the already unhealthy picture and i knew it was a losing battle against my health conscious (and super naggy) dad.

The epic salted egg squid from Tiny Cafe was recollected with fond memories but the same dish from Yijia surpassed that of Tiny Cafe featuring less crisp yet significantly more flavourful (note; more salted egg, more butter etc) batter and thicker cuts that absolutely upped the satisfying bite!

You need an example to know how good the dish was? Kon, the food guru, seems to have abandoned Tiny Cafe after his virgin trip to Yijia!

Location
550-552, Macpherson Road

Price
Salted Egg Squid comes in S$8 (Small) , S$12 (Medium) and S$15 (Large). Frankly, i could not remember the price we paid for this dish even though i thought it could be a medium size pricing.

Additional Information
We had the vegetables with three styles of eggs (salted, century and normal) and i have to say i am once again not impressed - as you can see, it was way too watery! Having them in soup may be a better suggestion.

Do you really think the Gang of Four would only ask for two dishes? You are so wrong!

In addition to the two i mentioned above, we cleaned up the strawberry chicken, salted egg crab, black pepper sliced deer meat and a bowl of soup!
