Hailed from the Land the Rising Sun, Mister Donut created quite a bit of stir when it finally opened a branch in Singapore in May last year! I didn't bother checking it out as I heard the queue can be insane.
But the situation was much muted (p.s. Taiwan's first branch was in 2005) when I chanced upon a Mister Donut branch at Taipei 101 Shopping Center, and I decided there and then; let's give it a try!
Next question that kicked in; there were so many choices and the procrastinator in me couldn't decide what to order! Knowing that my dad has a sweet tooth helped as it would allow me to purchase more.
Got my order; and don't be deceived by that one small paper bag. I got four items in total as they were having a promotion and the bill came up to be just 132 Taiwan dollars; approximately S$5.
Pon De Ring - said to be the signature, I would say this is quite similar to the original glace from Krispy Kreme, albeit of a different shape. One bite and the differences all swarmed in; the dough wasn't fluffy and the glace simply failed to match up to Krispy Kreme.
Pon De Ring Chocolate - disappointed with the original, I thought the chocolate one would at least give the decency of covering the flaws from the original. Sadly, it was worse with a strangely bland flavor that stopped me from eating more. Why waste the calorie-intake?!
French Apple & Whip Pie - I am glad I got a non-donut as the pie was creamy with pieces of apple. On second thought though, McDonald's apple pie appealed to me more.
Cheese Muffin - frankly, I assumed this was some orange muffin but after I went to take a closer look at the picture; I realized it was cheese muffin! Now, this was a shock for me.
Based on what I wrote on my notepad, there was no cheese taste at all! In fact, there was just a light orange flavor that could hardly be described as impressive. To be fair, the base sponge cake scored a positive rating for its soft fluffiness.
