Mixt - The Air-Conditioned Shopping Mall in the Middle of the Super Hot Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok [Thailand] #mixtchatuchakmall

While the COVID-19 pandemic has created great disruption everywhere, one personal advantage for me is that i have more time to clear my travel backlog given i don't have to commute to work. Just to give you a rough gauge, i take about 150 minutes a day to and fro my workplace!

Time saved that could now be used for clearing household chores, exercising, and blogging! So today, we shall touch on Mixt Shopping Mall; what's amazing about this mall is that it's right in the centre of the open-air, ultra-hot Chatuchak Weekend Market

Spanning 350 meters in length, it's fully air-conditioned, has a food court, consists of vendors that have shops in the weekend mark and  is open seven days a week!

So what are we waiting for?
Let's check it out!

In the centre of the ground floor is an atrium for which events are held; when i went in January 2020, there was a cactus mania with many varieties of cacti and prices were as cheap as 5 for 100 baht for the smaller ones.

The mall was quite packed when we were there at about 11.00 am but there's one area on the top floor that's most crowded as there's no such place within Chatuchak Weekend Market.

Air-conditioned food court that can't be found within the weekend market. There were of course individual eateries that might be air-conditioned but nothing beats having a wider variety of food at more wallet-friendly prices.

I had omelette rice again, with mango sticky rice and moo ping... Sadly, they weren't impressive although i can't be complaining as typical Singaporeans love air-conditioning. For review on the Thai style omelette rice, click here

Want a view overlooking Chatuchak Weekend Market? You can do so at Mixt, on the same floor as the food court. Can't imagine that in the not that big space; there are over 20,000 stalls! Like many others, i can't complete the whole market within a day!

Panorama for your pleasure!

Photos of the retail shops within Mixt. Unlike Chatuchak Weekend Market, items are varied and you don't really see repeats of the same items for sale. It's good if you do not have time to roam through the entire market just to find what you want but do note that prices appeared to be slightly higher. I bet you can bargain though.

Siamese fighting fishes (known as bettas) appeared to be gaining a lot more popularity nowadays in Thailand as i recall more of such shops specialising in the sale of the fishes.

Empty shop lots - given that Mixt is new and air-conditioned, it's a given that rental would likely be higher and it's hard to increase sales when items are expected to be higher and it's inevitable you are able to find the same item selling for a cheaper price next door, in the weekend market.

Premiums fruit stall! I can't imagine the market for it as you can find fruit stalls everywhere in Thailand as it's a heavy producer for tropical fruits and to ask consumers to pay a premium for fruits that's readily available is difficult.

There's also a row of massage parlours on the top floor and i had a wonderful massage at modern spa and nails! My masseur is the guy smiling in the picture! Ask for him if you happen to be there!

Price list as above!

There were a number of photo spots for you to cement the memories at Mixt. Strangely, there's no queue at all. To be frank, i see a lot more locals than foreigners when i was there.

More pictures of the retail shops!

Would you buy this bag? It's just a simple, plain design with options to iron on badges to make it different. Well, not my cup of tea to be honest as my preferred bags are always black in colour.

Outlet shop for puma and adidas; in terms of footfall, it was one of the highest although the key question is whether they are fake or not. Guess they should be judging from the official signboards.

Many eateries available; other than the food court. Pity i was too full to try anything else; was keen in the beer soft serve ice cream though that cost 69 baht in a cup at Deva Cafe.

Massive at this section on the ground floor. It has local products that i am more interested in but too many people mean i can't freely take good photos in that cramped space. Anyway, enough of air-conditioned malls; let's venture to the Weekend Market instead!

Last photo - this vintage car spotted outside Mixt.
