The Putu Piring Mobile Stall Opposite Chua Soon Hup Ori Gula Melaka @ Jonker Street Night Market in Melaka [Malaysia]

Known locally as a tourist trap, I would still recommend a visit to Jonker Street Night Market for first-time visitors to Melaka, just to soak in the atmosphere and get a few tubs of Uncle Lim popcorn

Something else my attention on this particular trip; a mobile stall selling putu piring, which similar to kueh tutu in the Singapore context even though we also have a famous putu piring stall at Haig Road

Helmed by an elderly couple, I was actually craving for putu piring as the store I wanted to purchase from earlier that same afternoon had already sold out, and there was this constant loop of the images of Haig Road putu piring constantly replying in my mind!

I joined the line with this guy who came all the way from Penang and claimed to always return to the same putu piring stall! Testament to his love for the product, I think he bought like ten pieces! That's like a huge boost to my expectation.

We got two pieces to go! I couldn't wait to take a bite and despite the heat, I quickly took one out, with  the rich aroma of rice hitting my nostrils, tempting my taste buds. And it's such a large piece! Sadly, I didn't quite like it.

While the portion was generous, the steamed flour was too thick and the thin layer of filling wasn't the gula melaka I expected; in replacement was a pile of shredded coconut meat with sugar that had a salty sweetness. Should I travel to Haig Road this weekend to satisfy my unfulfilled craving for putu piring?
