One thing I do like about our tour package to Taiwan in 2023 is that there were always some local specialties to light up the otherwise pretty common setup with fish, soup, vegetables. etc.
The restaurant, 哖記紅茶甕缸雞, has a rather decent review of 4.0 from over 450 reviewers and located near Ita Thao Shopping District. However, I can see that most diners were part of a tour.
The chickens were roasted in urns like the above; a peculiar sight! Strangely, I didn't notice the words 甕缸雞 or the urns when I was in Sun Moon Lake in 2014! Back then, the iconic dish to have was the President's Fish.
For someone who literally loves to play with fire as a kid, this was my childhood dream! Be careful of kids going too near as the fire warmed the body in the cooling weather.
Our dinner - shall review the chicken shortly and, as far as the rest of the dishes were concerned, nothing particularly stood out. As usual, I enjoyed the guomao vegetables!
Chicken was nice; it was said to be marinated with black tea and while I didn't capture a whiff of tea, I can't deny that it was aromatic with a juicy, flavorful bite! Only things lacking were the rice and chilli from Singapore chicken rice!
There was soup as well and it wasn't my cup of tea; there was a strange taste that was like ammonia, which was one major compound of urine.
