I first heard about this place from my friend and fellow blogger; Karen and as with [Thai The Dine-In], i was inspired to visit this cafe after reading her post! I should stop reading her blog since this lady seems to enjoy dining in pretty high-end restaurants; hardly comforting news for my thin wallet.
Wimbly Lu is an unlikely name for a cafe although i presume (from the website) that the name signifies a newborn and one that is given the most tender loving care by the parents; in this case, the owner(s).
The main business of Wimbly Lu deals with handmade chocolate (obviously) and there is even a dedicated corner right at the entrance where you can buy boxes of them.
My interest, unfortunately, lies with desserts and my eyes went straight for the dessert counter immediately upon entry [yes, i didn't realise there is a chocolate counter until i left]!
Glass ceiling where you can watch the cotton candy clouds turn slowly into animals, the whirring fans bringing along a gentle cooling breeze, brick walls that magically changed the fact that you are inside and not outside a building. I don't know about you but i found the entire atmosphere to be so comfortable, so relaxing!
We took a while to order - not because we were faced with an extensive menu but that our stomachs were too full to make a fair judgment on what we really need.
Pot of Monk's Blend
Tea would aid in digestion and i figured a tea by the name of Monk's Blend would likely be free of any sins and help me greatly in subduing the evils in my body.
Hot Chocolate
Non-HARDCORE chocolate lovers would find this hard to stomach as this was literally a melted bar of high quality chocolate! Should you prefer to have it sweeten instead of the original bitterness, you can always request from the friendly service staff.
Cheesy Toasty Melts
Given the word "melts", the Gang of Four first thought was the Cinnamon Melts from McDonald's and ordered without much hesitation.
Bad move - they were toasts!!!!
With melted cheese as fillings, i guess the given name was appropriate although we were not big fans of cheese except for the cheese on pizzas.
Root Beer Float Cake
The martini glass at the pâtissier's working area caught my attention and the words "root beer float" made the decision for me. I have heard of a lot of cakes but root beer float is definitely not one of them.
To put it simply, this was a sinfully rich and moist chocolate cake [baked in a batter including root beer] dumped unceremoniously in a soft bed of homemade vanilla ice cream! It was lusciously delicious with a subtle root beer fragrance.
Cheers to the discovery of this wonderful dessert!
Waffles with Toffee
Served with a scoop of salted caramel ice cream (homemade as expected and you can choose from vanilla, chocolate, cheesecake and salted caramel), it was an appetising piece of artwork placed in front of us! *Van totally wanted to buy the plate home*
Freshly baked with a dark yet un-burnt texture, the buttery waffles complemented perfectly with the sweet toffee syrup and savoury ice cream. It had been a long time since i last ate such nice waffles.
