A Beo Restaurant @ Sapa Town in Vietnam

A Beo Restaurant is Vietnamese eatery in Sapa Town that didn't quite stand out. Aside from the long banner listing what it served, its structure was literally covered with thin, metal plates that could have been illegally built!

Nevertheless, the review score of 4.9 from over 300 reviewers appealed to us and since salmon hotpot, a Sapa specialty, was on its menu; we decided to risk the stomachache and step in for a late lunch!

Even with our family of six persons, it felt tight in the eatery since it was just a lengthy, narrow stretch. Whatever the case, we were too lazy to move and the staff member was friendly! What we honestly needed then was something hot to warm the cold from Fansipan.

Honestly, the aroma of this plate of beef was so enticing! However, it was hard trying to ask what dish they were from since my Vietnamese is non-existent.

Bun Cha - since I am no big fan of pho, I suggested having bun cha. Frankly, I thought this was bun thit nuong instead of bun cha since the meat was in the broth, and not with the noodles.

With a mix of grilled pork belly and sliced pork, my elder sister counted this as her best meal in Sapa! The pork was so tasty, like pork lard, and the broth wasn't as sweet as I thought it should be. Combination with the vermicelli was perfect; to the extent we almost wanted to order a second serving.

Salmon Hotpot - this should be good enough for a few persons to share and it was disturbing to see the salmon head with its body all sliced up on a plate!

Now, I had to admit that the taste of the hotpot wasn't to my liking; it was sour and spicy yet unlike tomyum, and had a sharp flavour that didn't agree with my taste buds. My family members appeared more agreeable with it though.

Throwing in the slices of salmon! One question, why would there be salmon in the highlands?! And Sapa town is like almost 400 kilometers away from the nearest coastline! Turned out the climate at Sapa is conducive to farm salmon. p.s. I am still scratching my head.

Anyway, the salmon meat was so fresh!
Guess the salmon didn't die in vain.

=====

Strangely, the hotpot was less repulsive after I had the soup with the salmon! Maybe also because of the cold, since drinking it was just extremely warming for the tummy.
