Our first stop after clearing the Malaysian custom for our day trip was to secure breakfast at Gelang Patah, a small town near second link said to be popular with Singaporeans!
The recommended coffee shop had insufficient seats and my group (consisting of Alex and my mom) opted for another eatery just two doors away; 友發咖啡店. It was still crowded but most importantly; we got an empty table.
First up would be a cup of local coffee to start the day and a serving of kaya toast! Kopi was alright; I have had better but it was sufficient to energize given that I woke up so insanely early for this trip.
Nothing spectacular about the kaya toast too; it would benefit from a longer rest on the charcoal grill and it's unfortunate that the lightly crisp texture turned soft quickly; quite a bummer when I was expecting more.
The less than satisfactory breakfast meant a search for others to perk me up. And the next thing that came to mind would be the wanton mee from the same coffee shop!
Opted for a mixed wanton + dumpling noodles at RM 8.00 a serving. Unlike the picture on the menu, the wantons and dumplings were all thrown into the soup.
I love the noodles; springy and smooth! Would taste nicer with crispy pork lard; char siew was not bad although for a char siew lover, we always appreciate the fatty and/or charred bits.
With regard to the wanton and dumplings; they were meaty with an overall nice flavor. Again, not something breathtaking. p.s. I am seldom impressed with wanton and dumplings.
