Gigi Fried Chicken (Halal) @ Silom (Next to Sala Daeng BTS Station) [Bangkok, Thailand]

Back when I was in national service, working as a dental orderly, I was sent for an overseas assignment to Bintan and got to know what teeth are called in Bahasa Indonesia; Gigi.

So imagine walking into a restaurant by the name of Gigi Fried Chicken and wondering if I am going to have something that might be a mix between teeth, oral hygiene and chicken!

Decoration was middle eastern and there was confusion on our facial expression; this didn't feel like our typical fried chicken eateries and appeared more focus on specialized national cuisine.

There were even souvenirs that had us scratching our heads; is this a Turkish restaurant? Well, I would expect kebab, grilled lamb, moussaka, kunefe and baklava; definitely not fried chicken!

Going up level two as I was curious, and same situation; Turkish themed with their iconic, mesmerizing mosaic lamps hanging from the ceiling.

It was indeed a Turkish restaurant although there were indeed fried chicken on the menu. Why fried chicken was its namesake is something I didn't ask but on the back of my mind, I am assuming they must be the highlight!

Fried chicken it shall be and here's us awaiting with cutleries wrapped in plastic (thanks to COVID-19) and plain crockery. Seriously, efforts to reduce plastic efforts have been severely derailed due to the pandemic.

Lemon Tea Soda
- Is that lime or lemon? Whatever the case, tasted not bad even though I don't enjoy carbonated drinks that much and would very much prefer lemon tea, without the soda. This was Alex's order and he seemed happy with it.

Original Wings with Honey Chilli - as you have probably deduced from the menu I shared above on the fried chicken, it's pricey for 6 pieces at 195 baht (about S$7.50). And that's not even wings with tips; they were drumettes!

Can't much as the pictures on the menu were illustrated exactly the same! Anyway, you do have the options for either drumsticks or wings (drumettes actually), with types like original, hazelnut almond, pistachios and crispy onions, and three kinds of sauces; sweet and sour, honey chilli, and hot and spicy.

We opted for wings, original with honey chilli. The hazelnut almond, pistachios and crispy onions did seem interesting but they could be hits or misses. Original seemed the safest.

Freshly fried (waiting time of 15 minutes), I must admit these were similar to Korean fried chicken and I loved both the crispy batter and spicy sauce which had a light sweetness that wasn't cloying, and made every bite finger licking good!

Only regret? Not buying more!
Only issue? Pricing.
Service: Very good!
p.s. nothing to do with teeth.
