The Original Buta No Kakuni (Pork Lu Rou) from Waa Cow in University Town at NUS (Singapore)

Colleagues i am closed to would know i am a huge fan of Waa Cow; to the extent that i would dine there at least once a month (more likely fortnightly). Now that i hadn't been back to my office since early April, you can just imagine how badly i wanted their signature bowl of aburi bara chirashi.

However, i can't be eating aburi bara chirashidon for three days running. Therefore, i decided to give their Buta No Kakuni a try on the second day of my temporary return to work; it's quite new to the menu and comes with a S$3 discount if you follow Waa Cow on Telegram

Though it was a takeaway, the meal still looked darn inviting! Ingredients, according to menu, included "pork belly braised in sake and soyu, king oyster mushrooms and cucumber.

Especially captivating were the slices of glistening, braised pork belly that had a wonderful aroma; i couldn't wait to get started but as a fervent follower of leaving the best for the last, i had to gobble up the decorative cucumber first.

I can do without plain white rice but once it's mixed in with accompanying braised sauce; my knees went weak and i succumbed to the temptation; so yummy!

Braised pork belly - the main star of the dish! Tender each slice was and delicious they sure were although once i got to the third or four slices, the sinful oiliness got to me. It's a pity as each slice was like a terrific piece of char siew that just lacked the crispiness on the edges.

Whatever the case, i don't waste food.

In future though, i think i would be better off sticking to my favourites; either the healthier aburi bara chirashi bowl or the sinful wagyu beef rice bowl. But if someone would love to share the Buta No Kakuni with me, i am game for it!
