For someone who stays close to Chong Pang hawker centre for over 30 years, i have seen a lot of hawker stalls come and go. There's only a handful of those who continue to stay put and one of them is Lian Yin Hot & Cold Drinks! The auntie and uncle there have operated the stall since i was a kid!
Often drawing a long queue on weekends, the name on the signboard is misleading as it doesn't sell coffee, tea, canned drinks etc. Instead, you can only find soya bean drink (comes in hot / cold), grass jelly drink and beancurd (hot only) for sale.
Don't bother about the pricing on the signboard too; it's so confusing with replacement price tags! Nonetheless, the prices are economical for the serving size given that this is a sub-urban residential area.
As it is still phase 1 of post circuit breaker, i have to request for takeaway today. Singapore residents would be familiar with the black-white mix (left one in the photo). Also known as Michael Jackson, it's grass jelly drink mixed with soya bean drink! Even though there's another stall within the hawker centre that sells soya bean drink, i always go to Lian Yin as the soya taste is richer, with a nicer aroma and the drink was tastier. Maybe it's prejudice on my end as i have been drinking the beverages from this stall for more than 30 years!
A sip of Lian Yin's soya bean milk on a hot day is always so thirst-quenching! And you know what's better? Having a number of hot and crispy youtiao to dip into the cold soya bean drink!
