I wasn't impressed with the world's ranked number one porridge (天下第一粥) served at A-One Claypot House although it was a different story with their non-porridge offerings!
Therefore, i didn't raise any objection when my younger sister suggested going to A-One's Chinatown Point branch for century egg minced meat porridge after shopping at Metro and Ocean. My tummy was still full but i knew i could still stomach side dishes so long there's no rice / porridge.
Claypot Sesame Oil Chicken - Original price was S$16.90 even though members, like my sister, can get it for S$9.90 with a minimum of S$30 spent.
This was good on its own and you don't even need a bowl of rice to go with it! The chicken meat was soft and tender yet totally immersed in tantalizing sesame aroma. Put it bluntly, i can finish the entire pot myself!
Deep Fried Eggplant w Pork Floss in Creamy Salted Egg Sauce - AOne's Deep Fried Pumpkin and Lotus Roots with Salted Egg was memorable and i was all for having the same dish when my sister reminded me i should be more adventurous for the purpose of this blog!
Well, i am thankful she stopped me from ordering the same dish as this eggplant version was even more addictive! The blandness of brinjal intensified the flavour for both salted egg yolk and pork floss and you get a union that was incredibly delicious!
With the soft eggplant filling up the void encased by a thin yet crispy salted egg yolk batter, it should rightfully give one the illusion that you are eating something substantial. Not for me i guess since i couldn't stop eating them....
