Situated directly opposite the main entrance of Pasar Oleh Oleh was another "shopping village" - instead of a pasar (market in Malay), it was given the name of Kampoeng Lagoi.
A misnomer if you ask me since Kampong Lagoi was nothing like a traditional village. Strictly speaking, Pasar Oleh Oleh has a much stronger kampong vibe than Lagoi!
Walk into the compound and you get the feeling it was more of a European concept rather similar to the Johore Premium Outlets; albeit of a much smaller scale.
Nevertheless, the correct mixture of shops is very important and this is where you would get a sense of disappointment; nothing really excited me and some of the shops were not even tenanted!
It was like a ghost town; I was there for possibly ten minutes and besides the employees who manned the stores, there was practically not a single soul (except myself of course).
Kampong Lagoi was likely built to serve as an upmarket destination for visitors who would have a better shopping experience over Pasar Oleh Oleh. Overall decor was indeed more modern and nicer.
There was a massage salon and spa as well although i am presuming that the prices are more expensive than those across the road. To be fair, the interior design for this particular salon was a perfect picture of relaxation!
Likewise with Pasar Oleh Oleh, there was a travel agency offering tour packages. There are actually a lot of things you can do in Bintan; mangrove tour, fireflies tour, fishing tour, heritage tour, eco tour, adventure trekking and my favourite snorkeling excursions which are available during non monsoon season!
Cafe Tempo (open only from 4pm) was said to serve an epic soft-bone chicken! I am appending the menu above for you to get a rough feel on the pricing.
Strangely, you get a better discount in this Polo Ralph store than anywhere else in the Bintan resorts area. I have my misgivings on the quality on the branded clothing so choose carefully before you actually buy any!
