Pin Xiang 品香 - Local Fried (Char) Kway Teow @ Chong Pang Hawker Centre in Yishun [Singapore] #pinxiang #charkwayteow #chongpanghawker

To be frank, i am quite a faithful foodie; meaning if i am happy with one particular eatery / stall / restaurant at a location, there's a high chance i would have their food every time i am there.

That's what happened at Chong Pang hawker centre as i often patronize that few stalls like Tian Tian Cooked FoodChuan Kee Boneless Braised Duck Rice etc. But with travel not being an option, there's a motivation for me to try out new stalls so that this blog can continue to be updated!

I noticed a queue sometimes at Pin Xiang ( 品香 ) whenever i ordered the prawn noodles from Tian Tian Cooked Food and thought it would be worth a try; especially when the dishes on the menu included local favourites [e.g. char kway teow, carrot cake (both black and white), oyster omelette].

Quite surprised to see three different frying pans; guess one is for carrot cake, another one for oyster / prawn omelette and the last is reserved for noodles like char kway teow and punggol mee goreng. No prize for guessing what i am craving for.

Local char kway teow it shall be, with an extra egg!

Departing from my usual, i actually didn't ask for extra sweet sauce although it did appear reasonably dark. One thing i did notice from the onset; the thick of slices of fish cake! No complaint from me as they proved to be satisfying.

When i have char kway teow, it's usually the sweetness mixed with charr-ness that i look forward to having. In this plate, the sweetness wasn't that obvious even though i was caught off guard by the exceptionally strong infusion of wok hei.

Interestingly, while many stalls would stinge on the cockles, Pin Xiang did the opposite by giving four, rather large cockles. However, i didn't find the larger size contributing significantly to the overall flavour; maybe because they didn't seem bloody enough.

There was only one thing that i feel could be improved; the addition of crispy pork lard as i didn't find a single piece at all. Maybe i should bravely ask for extra pork lard in the future, as i always did with my favourite fried kway teow stall at Ayer Rajah Hawker Centre.

A New Toy in the House - Ogawa Smart Jazz Massage Chair! #ogawasmartjazzmassagechair

I don't have the capability to stay in a big house and while my home isn't that cramped for a 3-room flat; it's still a fight for precious real estate whenever i need to purchase something of substantial size.

And this box delivered to my house appeared way too bulky for my tiny space! Although i didn't pay a single cent for it, i treasure comfort and the item hidden in the box might be a side-bump hazard!

Ironically, the product is designed to give me more comfort; yes, it's a bloody massage chair! Brand is Ogawa and model is Smart Jazz. To be honest, i have always wanted a massage chair but more so for my elderly parents; especially my mom who absolutely adores massages!

Anyway, moving in proved to be a challenge as my doorway was way too narrow even though the experienced deliverymen had removed one of the gates.

They deftly removed the components; guess it's not the first time they are sending their massage chairs to a HDB flat. From what i gathered from one of the guys, this is a new model and just on that day alone, 15 units were delivered all over Singapore.

Actually, it's better i don't see all these as from young; i am known to remove parts from mechanical toys, clocks etc. Putting them back together is, unfortunately, not my forte. Given the price tag of the massage chair, i must constantly tell myself that i mustn't attempt to remove any of the components!

A success in moving the chair in!

Putting everything back so that it can function as one! Frankly, i roughly can work out the "removal" and the "reinstatement". If the need arises, handyman Cavin shall do his best!

Ooooo, it can recline back so much?! I did a trial massage at Ogawa's branch at Northpoint and didn't even realize it; it's actually one of the features known as zero gravity.

Guess who was one of the first "customers" for the new massage chair? Of course it has to be my mom! And enjoying the relaxation, she sure did. As she has the keys to my home, i guess i would see her dropping by more often.

With seven automated massage programs (waist and hips, neck and shoulders, sweet dreams, thai massage, recovery, shape and tone, and deep tissue), the zero gravity and the ability to massage your hips and down to the sole of your feet, i must say this satisfies us beyond expectations.

Hope it wouldn't become a white elephant!

The Recently Very Popular Hai Chi Jia Sour & Spicy Cup Noodle (嗨吃家酸辣粉)

I was gifted the above cup noodle by my younger sister and understood from her that it's super popular on online marketplaces! I guess it sure is as The Straits Times had even run an article and ranked this particular brand (Hai Chi Jia) of suan la fen (sour & spicy noodle) first out of eight different brands.

Taking note of the instructions as i am unsure if this would be soup based. My eyes almost popped when i noticed the 1764kJ per 100g as i assumed it is the same as calories. Thankfully, i ran a separate check on google and it's only 421 calories. p.s. 421 is still quite high given that Nissin cup noodle (chill crab) is only about 333 calories.

What's within the box? Individually packed were the sweet potato noodles, seasoning powder, chilli oil, vinegar, soya sauce, peanuts, dehydrated vegetables, and a fork.

Removed the packaging and threw everything in!

Someone suggested to put in a raw egg and i wasn't keen to do so as this would be my first time trying and i would prefer to have the "original" taste instead of adding something extra in order to enhance the flavour.

Poured in boiling water, covered the cup and endured the wait of five minutes.

Voila; the noodles were ready for consumption; look at that oily layer on top! Give it a nice stir to ensure a good mix of the flavours and ingredients. I am glad i had this at home as the first thing i would normally do is to have a sip of the soup but there's no spoon provided in the cup noodle! Home cutlery to the rescue!

Now, the soup wasn't as sour as i anticipated but that numbing spiciness definitely blew me away! It was as good as the mala pot i had at a food court in Northpoint shopping mall and i wouldn't have expected that from an instant cup noodle!

Loving the texture of the almost transparent sweet potato noodles and they did a marvellous job in soaking up the soup; every slurp was delightful even though i was sweating profusely.

To be honest, i wasn't that keen with the soup as it was just too spicy for my liking. However, i do not want to waste it. Hence, my strategy is to drink up as quickly as i could so that i could slowly indulge in the noodle and the accompanying ingredients like beancurd skin towards the end.

I mentioned peanuts as an ingredient earlier and it's fascinating that they remained crispy throughout despite being soaked in the soup! Obviously, they were great additions and gave an irresistible nutty twist to the meal; just like mala xiangguo.

Finally done with the food; with my hair, face and body drenched in sweat! Given the outflow of excessive bodily fluid and the mere fact that i enjoy Nissin cup noodles (seafood) better, i think this would be a one-off try. Nonetheless, i think Hai Chi Jia Sour & Spicy Cup Noodle would really appeal to those who adore anything that's spicy!

Pricing
My sister got it for S$3.00 a cup a few months ago but i guess the pricing has dropped quite significantly. You can make your purchase at online platforms like Shopee, Ezbuy or from brick and mortar stores like NTUC, Octobox.

Comfort Food - The Traditional Homemade Waffle from Prima Deli

Like any human, i do have my fair share of comfort food and some came with long-time nostalgia as they hailed from the days when i was a kid / teenager. Today, the item i am talking about came from the above device.

Yes, it's a waffle machine but the ones from Prima Deli always bring back a ton of memories and despite the proliferation of waffles from the many cafes sprouting in Singapore over the years; Prima Deli's waffles still count as one of the rare few i would crave every now and then.

Price list as above; pricing has increased but S$1.50 for a plain waffle isn't that exorbitant although my taste buds are veered towards the one with chocolate spread. My rationale; since i am already eating unhealthy stuff, i might go for something more luxurious!

My waffle was ready; thankfully no queue! As there are many Prima Deli outlets in Singapore, the main reason why i didn't buy most times was because there's often a queue.

To be honest, i like my waffles crispier and it's obvious from the pictures that the one i got was soft and limp looking. Oh well, it still managed to command the unique, mouthwatering aroma of Prima Deli's freshly made waffles that i find irresistible!

Luckily, it was thickly coated with chocolate sauce although i wouldn't like an over-generous spread. Too thin and it's not worth the money i paid for and too thick; the sweetness would likely overwhelm everything. Took a bite; yum, the fluffiness with that hint of pandan!

Introducing the waffle from Prima Deli to Jovyn; and she loves it! Hopefully, this would be one of the comfort foods she look forward to having when she's older.
