Yuan Yuan Claypot Rice (源源砂煲饭) @ ABC Brickworks Hawker Centre (Behind IKEA Alexandra)

I have been wanting to blog about this particular claypot rice at Bukit Merah but there is a major issue that i shall address nearing the end of this post.

The most notable stall at ABC Brickworks market has to be Yuan Yuan Claypot Rice; its fame is synonymous to ABC and is likely the first thing that comes to one's mind when anyone mentions ABC market.

It looked simple with ingredients like preserved sausage, vegetables, chicken meat and most importantly, white rice. However, to perfect this dish, you need years of training just to control the fire. Wait, the perfection actually lies with the diners.

Mixing is a damn crucial step and this heavy responsibility is in the hands of the person who volunteers. In this case, the volunteer is (unfortunately) me.

NEVER, EVER, EVER wait when the server has delivered the steaming hot claypot to you. Given my affection to those burnt bits that are such a delight to chew, I stupidly gave it a minute before stirring!!!

Outcome? Roughly half the rice was carbonised!! And it's no fun having to crunch a big piece of supposedly carcinogenic material every two bites.

Thankfully, we were still able to savour the goodness of the soy sauce rice and the super yummy chicken meat; despite the intense fire power, each piece of chicken still managed to lock in the delicious claypot fragrance and retain a suitable level of moisture!

If only i didn't wait! Sad... =(
