Hainanese Curry Rice

Situated @Maxwell Hawker Centre!!

This was the second time i tried this stall.

The very first impression, I though it was just a normal chap chai ben (mixed vegetables rice) and im not wrong (u still have to choose the combination)!! But of coz, the taste differed from the norm that we were damn familiar with.

One key difference was that the varieties never seem to change, another was that the pork chop with the curry gravy that go with the rice really make it very palatable!

No wonder there are forever a queue for it!! I reached at around 11am, well before the lunch break and oredi, there were 6 people queuing! But have to admit its quite ex. Alex and I spent $6.70 for two portions and i still had to stuff myself with fried banana and ondeh ondeh to be moderately full. Haha

Pork Chop with Sunny Side Up and Cabbage!
One word, delicious. I dunno wat went into making the pork chop but it tasted..... Hm... Traditional! It had a milky taste to it! Not human milk k! Lol. U can see the amount of curry gravy that went with it~! Rest assured, its not even "warm" to the taste buds!

Deep Fried SMALL Prawns with Steam Egg and Bean Sprouts
Alex tried this one which i though was grossly normal with patrhetic tiny prawns. But i admitted the the prawns did taste not bad and the steamed egg was like some big chunk! As usual, our Alex cannot finish it.

Changes!

I seldom drive at daytime since im using an OPC (Off-Peak Car). But today, i bought the temporary license and passed by Yishun Avenue 5, near Chong Pang.

I was shocked to see all the trees being given a crew cut!!! Gone were the lush greenery surrouding the slim branches. But of coz, all the bird residing at the trees can be quite a menance, with all the potential shit that dropped! Lol.

If you were around there @night, you will note quite a few people using umbrellas even though its not raining! Try it after the "hair" has grown back.

Optical Illusions

Its been like, i think, 10 years since i last went to the Singapore Science Centre. In lieu with my deteoriating memory, i cannot remember much of the last trip! However, i still managed to have an enjoyable time!

Might as well put all of you to the test! Look at the few pictures below and see if u can see what i thought i saw!

Is this a happy sailor? or a sad man?

Sad Policeman? Or happy sailor?

A few stalks of violet? Or napolean and his lover/wife?

Interesting right?? Guess my eyes are still ok! Lol

Pariss International

The first time i heard this name, i tot it was just a MLM company or some high class thingy but like most of u heard, its a buffet restaurant that is supposedly on the same league like Vienna, another restaurant that caters to the buffet hungry Singaporeans like me!! Lol.

Anyway, i tried it just a few hours ago but i only have one word for it.
BAD

The food was not fabulous, their shark fins sucked (sorrie, animal activists), the desserts were not commendable, the spanner crabs tasted ironically fishy, the range was not wide(the normal sushi, dim sum, chinese food, teppanyaki etc). In all, its just not innovative enuff.

From my distant memory of Vienna, it served innovative and well designed food! At least they attempted to put normal fruit juice into a test tube, clams that were baked with cheese, mini pot of herbal chicken soup etc etc!

Sighz... Im reli disappointed by it and even though service was ok but i wished that the person (Peach i think) at the reception can greet with a smile.. Sometimes, i wonder if i knew em and perhaps owed them something (like money).

The other thing worth mentioning was that the person answering our phone queries was not well versed in English and you may have difficulty and frustration in booking a reservation.

However, some of the items like the teppanyaki lamb chop, the lobster salad etc were quite good. And currently, they have student and senior citizens promo, which made it cheaper than sakura!

The promotion ends tomorrow, by the way.

Jack Russells Hate Rubee

I dunno why but i realises that jack russels hate my dear old rubee!! And its limited to the males and only to this particular breed!! I can only think of a few reasons as to why;
  1. Rubee is too friendly!
  2. Rubee is gay!! Apparently the other males are straight
  3. Rubee has a genetically repelling scent that only triggers the males JRT (Jack Russell Terrors, opps terriers)
  4. Rubee obviously has too much charm and the Jack Russells genetically, just cannot tahan him!
  5. Rubee looks like a female and the male Jack Russells are obviously pissed when they realise that!
I cannot pinpoint the "TRUE" reason becoz my rubee has always been friendly, non agressive and particularly patient dog.

Malaysia Boleh!

I am finally back in Singapore and am now facing some kinda lethargy.. I guess i din play enuff in KL. Furthermore, i am going to start on my job searching soon. Very sianz ah!! Anyway, a quick update on how Kuala Lumpur has changed all this while~~

Food
My favourite topic and the utmost reason why i always go KL; the food there are cheap and good. My favourite place is as usual, the famous Kim-Gary restaurant!! I have to admit that the price has gone up somewhat and if you people ever go there, please go during lunch as there are more varieties and go for the set meal, its more worth it. Two of the dishes i have tried are discussed as follow:

HK Style Baked Rice with Cheese and Beef
I tried baked rice before and i felt that its unpalatable but this one stop me right at that outrageous statement! Not only was it cheessy , but the red sauce that goes with it and the tender beef that lined the baked rice made it looked too appealing. It tasted heavenly! The cheese striped off the beef like those adverts that we fondly remember of Pizza Hut's pizzas. It only cos me RM15.50 as a set and I give it 9/10.

Beef with Spaghetti in Red Sauce
One look at the amazing dish above and u will know how tentalising it is! I tasted it and almost flied out of the building. The sweet tangy red sauce, coupled with the piece of soft beef and the ever healthy tomatoes deter me from giving anything less than a rating of 10/10! It costs only RM12.50 as a set.

Weird Sight

One very weird way of selling is shown by the picture above. From one glance, we thought someone was selling tigers!! But the "tigers" turned out to be soft toys! Nonetheless, it attracted a lot of viewers like me, who din hesitate to take a pic or too. Lol.

Tats all folks~ Hopefully i will be going there again! I managed to purchase alot of car accessories!! Will post it in the next column!!

Singapore GE 2006

I have placed a lot of importance to this general election because
  1. Its my FIRST time voting
  2. I have been reading newspapers since 1993 and have felt strongly for the politics.
  3. Im finally completing my studies and am FINALLY going into a permanent workforce and am very interested to see what my MP can do for me and my country.
Im part of e biggest GRConstituency in Singapore, the Sembawang GRC that has over 170,000 eligible voters! I have no qualms about declaring that i voted for the PAP. The reason was not tat im an avid PAP supporter, no doubt that PAP has ruled the country well for over 40 years.

I vote for the one who can speak up for the citizens and can do well for the future of not just the GRC im in but also for the whole country. Below are some reasons why i din vote for the opposition.

  1. My MP, Mr K Shanmugam, has done fairly well for my constituency at Chong Pang. Even though i am really curious what the results are for the individual constituencies in a GRC. for example, if the Election department actually showed individually (instead of just the whole of Sembawang GRC) in terms of Chong Pang, Canberra, Marsiling, Admiralty, Woodlands and Sembawang.
  2. The party SDP is synomous with its bankrupt party leader, Dr Chee Soon Juan, whom i din have a very good impression of. I think he is basically destroying Singapore's reputation with his no hold speech all around the world. And i think the SDP strategy in being "loud" really dun work well for me.
  3. The SDP seems disunited and wat's the pointed of voting for a disunited team that dun seem to be even able to settle their "home" problems. There was one rally where they only have 2 canditates out of the 6 attending, with the other 4 "missing" from action
I expected the result of Sembawang GRC (with over 75% voting for the team led by Dr Khaw) but im amazed by the big majority swing!! It has been an exciting election year though i felt that there are more "mud slinging" this time around and i dun wish to see politicking turning into the one like Taiwan!

Hereby, i congrat PM Lee Hsien Loong (i have always believe in him) and the PAP for the strong mandate that they had gotten from the voters. Congrats too to Mr Low Thia Kiang and Mr Chiam See Tong (both of which have offered important, alternate viewpoints in parliament of which others may have missed out) in retaining their seats in Hougang and Potong Pasir respectively.

Lastly, all the above are my personal views and i apologise if i have offended anyone. Of course, i welcome any comments, positive or negative.

Finally, A Haircut

My Rubee finally succumbed to a haircut by Wenjun, a groomer from Alphapets at Upper Thomson road, near Nee Soon Camp! Lol. He had groomed Rubee's 3 times and is getting better and better! See the before and after look! Looked better, dun he? Yes, a he.. not a charbo k?
